Discover the secret of the Lüganuse church tower

Discover the secret of the Lüganuse church tower

REQUEST INFORMATION View on map

Lüganuse is an ancient settlement, where according to the Estonian historian and archaeologist Evald Tõnisson, there might have been a hillfort or sacred hill instead of the present-day John the Baptist Church. The history of the church dates back to the 14th century: 1374.

Upon request, the church doors will be opened for you, and you will be taken to the rooms not usually accessible to regular churchgoers - the porch chamber, the sword chamber, behind the organ, ringing the church tower bell. You will see wonderful stained glass windows and paintings, learn the stories connected with their creation, discover cross depictions hidden under the church roof gable, and even take part in ringing the church bell.

The guide is the priest of the church himself.
